Global Dom's Products and Services

Raw tubes turn into finished products after being processed through technological processes.

Global Dom’s core business is a high level service that unifies our skills in organising, designing, calculating, manufacturing and delivering every single piece of machinery to assemble a complete drawing plant, up to its final testing.

What is the equipment that makes up a drawing line? And what are the processes the tubes undergo?
Global Dom illustrates them below:

1. Furnace

During the production cycle, tubes must be heat-treated depending on the desired cycle. Heat treatments that can be carried out in a roller hearth furnace are annealing, tempering and normalizing. These processes take place in N2+H2 controlled atmosphere, to get bright tubes.

2. Pickling

Tubes that come from rolling mills have internal and external surfaces covered either by oxides or by oily films. These impurities are removed thanks to the pickling process of immersion into acid.
After the washing and the neutralization processes, they are covered in a layer of bonder acting as a lubricant for the drawing process.

3. Pointing Machine

In order to be gripped by the jaws of the drawing machine, tubes must have their tips reduced and flattened to at least 200 mm in length.
This process can be done before or after pickling.

4. Cold Drawing Benches

A cold drawing bench can process any tubes with an external diameter of 20 mm up to 250 mm.
Thicknesses may vary from a minimum of 1 mm to 25 mm.
In each cycle, the machine is able to draw one to five tubes simultaneously.

5. Straightening Machine

To comply with the different regulations which are applied to the various construction sectors, tubes must be entirely straightened from head to tip. Moreover, they need to have a roundness measure within a certain tolerance. The straightening machine is able to keep both of these pipe characteristics under control, maintaining a tolerance level well within current rules and regulations.

6. Cutting to size

In order to be sold, all pipes have to be cut and possibly brushed or beveled. An automatic system allows multiple cuts to be made to the customer’s desired length.

7. Testing for defects - Eddy-Current

Before being sold, tubes must be free from both surface and structural defects. This machine has the task of intercepting defects and qualifying pipes for sale (at the customer’s cost).

8. Lubrication

This process, where bundles of tubes are immersed into a tank full of oil, gives temporary antioxidant protection.

9. Bundling and Weighing

After the processes described above are complete, pipes are automatically grouped into hexagonal, square or rectangular bundles, strapped, dripped and weighed. Straight away, they are ready to be stored or directly loaded and shipped. Bundling lines generally work in unison with the defect control system.

10. Control and Automation

The line is managed and completely handled by a control and automation system through its hardware and software.
Every single machine of the plant is set up to integrate to the entire line easily, ensuring the required productivity.
